Voting History

In August 1920 19th Amendment was ratified into the U.S. Constitution and it guaranteed American women the right to vote. It took another 45 years for Voting Rights Act in 1965 to outlaw the discriminatory voting practices adopted in many southern states after the Civil War, including literacy tests as a prerequisite to voting. Today we are still fighting voter suppression in many states. Yet in 2020 it is up to those historically suppressed voters to defend our democracy. Your vote. Your voice.
