Election has consequences
Because we won in 2020 the first Black Woman, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed. Because we lost in 2016 we have extreme Republican Supreme Court and our progress and freedom are all at risk. Keeping Democratic majorities in the congress is a must for Midterm 2022. We need to get involved in electoral campaign, donation and issue organizing.
Making Voter Contacts to win elections
While all voter contacts help, some are more effective than others to win elections. Canvassing is most effective for both persuasion and Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV), and phone banking follows. These are proven method to identify supporters and cleaning the lists for GOTV, but the number of contacts one person can make is limited. Post pandemic canvassing has been very productive in reaching out to voters. Elections especially local ones could be decided by canvassing.
All our phone banks are online for you to join safely from home. At this time phone banking is our top priority, gets you the biggest bang for your buck, and most needed in out of state races.
Texting is effective for event invite and GOTV since the information is right under voters’ finger tip. Text App Hustle was widely utilized in 2016, and since then multiple platforms/Apps such as ThruText, Spoke, OutVote, TextOut and Outreach were developed. Through these apps you will be able to send 1000s of messages in a short time without using your texting function. However using the apps could be costly and so is obtaining cell phone numbers. Voter fatigue is becoming a challenge since texting is widely used and you have to opt voters out when asked.
Postcards and letters are effective and sometime only way to reach voters who live rural area without known phone number. Volunteer enthusiasm is a blessing for the campaigns since 40/58 cents per contact is expensive. It is one way communication so that it is not fit for cleaning lists, identifying supporters or persuading undecided in the electoral campaign.
We humans are social creatures, and when we get reminded multiple times in many ways by different people, it increases the likelihood of voting. So all is needed!
Financing your candidates and causes
Donation is imperative to support your cause and/or candidate. Since our resources are limited we need to donate strategically. Donation asks are design to push your emotional buttons. What are your goals?Instead of donating when we receive donation asks or to our favorite politicians, research and donate to meet your goals. Consider making maximum amount to your causes and candidates. Monthly donations are appreciated and check if your employer will match your donation. Trend is donating to the grassroots organizations working on the ground not only during elections, but permanently to empower communities.
Holding elected officials accountable
No matter which office they hold, we hired them to represent us. We need to hold them accountable, and it requires us to participate and pay attention what they do. Contact your representatives for issues both you support and oppose. We should have the contact information for our representatives.
