Contra Costa County Votes

All registered voters in California receive a Vote by Mail Ballot in the mail.

There are three ways to vote.

  • Mail your Vote by Mail Ballot (must be postmarked on or before November 4, Recommended to mail by October 28)
  • Drop off your Vote by Mail Ballot in a 24-Hour Drop Box Please find Drop Box locations in Tri-Valley area below.
  • You can vote early or on election day in Contra Costa County. You can register, re-register, receive a replacement ballot and assistance, and vote at the same time.

Early Voting

You can vote early in-person at the Elections office (555 Escobar Street, Martinez, CA 94553) during regular business hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday). Your experience will be different from the options you have on Election Day. Once a staff member verifies your information, you can expect to mark your selections on an accessible ballot-marking device(Opens in a new window) and cast your printed ballot. Pre-printed ballots are available upon request at the Elections office.

When voting early in person, expect to follow the steps below to receive your ballot, mark your ballot, and vote:

  1. Provide your full name and confirm your residence address to the staff member at the check-in station.
  2. Sign the electronic poll book.
  3. A staff member will activate your ballot on the accessible ballot-marking device.
  4. Once you have made and reviewed your selections, print your official ballot and cast it into the Green Ballot Bag.
  5. That’s it! Make sure to take your “I Voted!” sticker and wear it proudly.

Election Day Voting

You can vote in person at any polling place within the county between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm. However, your pre-printed ballot type is only available at your designated polling place. You can find your assigned polling place printed on the back of your Voter Information Guide or by using our My Voting Information look up tool.

You can expect a traditional voting experience at any of our polling places on Election Day. Once a poll worker verifies your information, you have the option to mark your selections on a paper ballot or on an accessible ballot-marking device(Opens in a new window) and cast your printed ballot. A ballot for a voter not at their assigned polling place is only available on an accessible ballot-marking device.

When voting in person, expect to follow the steps below to receive your ballot, mark your ballot, and vote:

  1. Provide your full name and confirm your residence address to the poll worker at the check-in station.
  2. Sign the electronic poll book and the poll worker will hand you a ticket.
  3. Take your ticket to the poll worker at the ballot issuing station and they will issue you a paper ballot or activate your ballot on the accessible ballot-marking device.
  4. Once you have made and reviewed your selections, insert your official ballot into the Green Ballot Bag.
  5. That’s it! Make sure to take your “I Voted!” sticker and wear it proudly.
