Candidate Statement for Sue Hamill, California AD16

My service to the Democratic Party

2007 -President Obama’s campaign as a volunteer phone banker and canvasser in
Nevada.

2012 – Regional Field Organizer for the 2012 Obama campaign
Delegate to the National Democratic Party Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina

2013 – Co-created the Contra Costa ACA team, that held over 150 events in Contra Costa County, offering education and enrollment in Covered California and MediCal programs. We were commended for our work by our Congressperson at the time, George Miller.

2016 – Contra Costa County co-lead for the Clinton campaign.
Treasurer for Kevin Wilk in the 2016 Walnut Creek City Council race. His election at that time put the only Democrat on the council.

2016-2024 -I have served the last 8 years as a publicly elected member of the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County. I have been the 2nd Vice chair and the Chair of the Fundraising, Training and Recruitment Committees. I am currently co-Chair of the Volunteer Activism Committee. In this role in 2024 I recruited volunteers and was an active volunteer myself in the collaboration between the CDP and the Bay Area Coalition, a group of more than 40 activist organizations. Our canvassing, phone banking and ballot curing efforts helped flip CD13.

2018 to Present – Poll worker for the Contra Costa County Elections Office.

2023- Present – Board member at the Rossmoor Democratic Club, a 1200+ member club. We produce an excellent speaker program, do voter registration, and create boots-on-the-ground letter writing, phone banking and canvassing events.

I have been a delegate to the California Democratic Party (CDP) continuously since 2011. I have fulfilled all the duties and responsibilities of a CDP delegate. Additionally, I have served as the Bay Area Regional Chair for the Rural Caucus of the CDP and as a member of the Voter Services and Organizing Standing Committees.

I’d like to continue my involvement with the California Democratic party as a delegate from AD 16 particularly so I can continue as a member of the Organizing Standing Committee. Their ongoing efforts with the Bay Area Coalition will help ensure there is a strong Democratic voice during the years of a Trump Presidency.
