Candidate Statement for Michelle Sinnott Petersen, California ADEM 16

As a dedicated volunteer, educational and gun safety advocate, I have worked with a wide range of community members to better our communities.

Since 2016, I have been a leader and advocate for gun safety. I am the group lead for the Greater Mount Diablo Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a group that comprises over 6,000 volunteers. I have formed relationships with several non-profits in Richmond and Vallejo to decrease the threat of gun violence in these communities, seeking grant funding for community-based violence interruption programs and youth empowerment programs. I served as gun safety liaison for the Mayor of Antioch from 2020-2022.

I worked as a firefighter for 7 years and am pro-union. I volunteer for the PTA and was PTA President of my son’s school for 2 years and greatly value public education. I was a candidate for School Board for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District in 2022. In this past election, I served on the campaign teams for two school board candidates running for re-election (they both won). I am a founding member of the pro-public education organization, Lift Up Public Schools, which seeks to support and empower pro-public education candidates in Contra Costa and Alameda counties. I am an avid mountain biker and serve as the Board President of the Mount Diablo Trails Alliance, a trail stewardship organization for Mount Diablo State Park.

I serve as an alternate for Rebecca Bauer Kahan, Assembly Member District 16, in the Contra Costa Democratic Party.

I have been a delegate to the California Democratic Party since 2023. I have fulfilled all the duties and responsibilities of a CDP delegate. I’d like to continue my involvement with the California Democratic Party as a delegate from AD 16 and am proud to be a part of the #unityvalues slate endorsed by Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan.
