My name is Manav Patel. I am a first-generation Indian immigrant and have lived in Livermore, CA, for 20 years. As a proud member of Generation Z, I want to bring a fresh perspective and advocate for the priorities of our generation, which is why I am running to represent the Tri-Valley and Bay Area as a California Democratic Party delegate in the upcoming Assembly Democrats election.
I graduated from Granada High School in 2019, earned my Associate’s degree in Business Administration from Las Positas College in 2021, and completed my Bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Politics at UC Santa Cruz in 2023. I work as an after-school tutor, helping K–12 students build confidence in reading and math.
As a delegate, I will prioritize climate action, supporting policies to reduce the impacts of climate change. I am also committed to addressing homelessness by advocating for transitional housing and permanent affordable housing and helping engage in practical solutions to root out crime in our state. I will champion workers’ rights, fight for fair wages, and advocate for youth mental health resources. Having personally overcome depression, I understand the importance of policies that support young people’s well-being.
My activism began in 2018 when I organized a walkout to protest the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and demand gun safety reforms. I’ve since participated in marches for climate justice and racial equity. In 2021, I served on The Working Group advising the Livermore City Council’s Subcommittee on Equity and Inclusion, where we promoted diversity and addressed systemic inequities at the local Livermore level. We had to negotiate with individuals with very different perspectives—which is part of what makes Livermore the city it is. Our work was one of three or four key initiatives that won Livermore the All-America City Award.
In 2020, I joined grassroots efforts with Brand New Congress, supporting Democratic campaigns across the country. In 2022, I helped secure protections for graduate students during a strike at UC Santa Cruz. Over the years, I’ve volunteered for over 10 Democratic campaigns, including Bernie Sanders’ presidential bid.
Most recently, in 2024, I worked to elect Livermore City Councilman Steven Dunbar, Livermore School Board Member Christiaan VandenHeuvel, and Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan. Politicians should reflect the diversity and characteristics of their communities, which is why I helped these passionate community members achieve elected office. As a delegate, I will ensure the Tri-Valley and Alameda County voices are heard, and our shared values guide the Democratic Party’s future.
