Safe Storage of Firearms Ordinance – Livermore City Council Meeting April 25th at 7pm

Please join Livermore Valley Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America as the City Council votes to adopt a Safe Storage of Firearms Ordinance, on April 25 at 7:00 pm. The ordinance would require any firearm in a home to be securely stored in a locked container or disabled with a trigger lock. Firearms are the leading cause of death among children in the United States. Storing firearms securely can help prevent these tragedies and keep kids safe. If you’d like to help, sign-up here and you will receive more information.

You can help in one, two or three ways:

  1. Send an email of support by April, 24, 5:00 pm. Earlier is even better.
  2. Attend the Livermore City Council meeting in Person or via Zoom
  1. Make a 2-3 minute public comment during the meeting.
    • In person: Be sure to fill-out and submit a speaker card when you arrive.
    • Via Zoom: Use the “raise your hand” function when public comment is opened on this agenda item.

Here are the facts:

Nearly every day in this country one small child unintentionally kills himself or another child after finding an unsecured firearm typically in their home. Every day on average, two teens commit suicide using an unsecured firearm from their home or a relative’s home. Unsecured firearms are also easily stolen in home robberies where they then become crime guns for criminals. Finally, 80% of school shootings are done by a student or former student of the school, using an unsecured firearm obtained from their home or a relative’s home.

Please share this information with other concerned Livermore residents. We want to make sure that they receive many, many emails in support of this safe storage ordinance.
